The Renaissance Collaborative, Inc., (TRC) was incorporated in 1992 with a unique vision of holistically addressing the problems of the homeless and the near-homeless in the Chicago area. The mission of TRC is to provide a comprehensive environment of housing, health and wellness and economic self-sufficiency for the residents of the Bronzeville community. The fulfillment of this vision and mission has been grounded in the redevelopment of the former Wabash YMCA to The Renaissance Apartments and Life Fitness Center.

The Renaissance Apartments and Fitness for Life Center is a 101-unit single room occupancy (SRO) living center with supportive services. The facility offers health and wellness; continued recovery support; nutrition, mental and physical health services; employment education and training; job readiness, employment referrals and retention services as well as life management training.

The Renaissance Apartments and Fitness for Life Center resides in a historic building that was once home to the Wabash YMCA. The Wabash Y was the hub of Black civic and social activity in the early 1900s. As Blacks migrated from the South to the North, the Wabash Y was the orientation center for new African American arrivals seeking a better way of life.

TRC believes in collaborative efforts and is committed to excellence and a spirit of cooperation. Our ultimate purpose is to enrich the quality of life for residents of Bronzeville. We want self-sufficiency, wellness and a sense of self-worth for all our tenants. We welcome supporters and partners to help us fulfill the TRC mission..
