Hundreds Visit Historic Former Wabash Y

TRC’s participation in Open House Chicago was a resounding success! 479 guests visited the historic former Wabash Y between October 14 and 15 to learn about the building’s remarkable history.

Expecting a large crowd, TRC developed a self-guided tour allowing guests to explore and learn at their own pace. Fourteen volunteers, many of whom are TRC residents, chose one piece of the building’s history and were trained as subject-matter experts that would be available to speak with guests and answer their questions. Isaiah Moore shared, “Volunteering was a joyful experience. It was awesome being able to talk about historical things that are often times overlooked. It’s all of our responsibility to secure a better future for the next generation and I am glad I was able to do just that!”

Plans are in the works for a Black History Month open house. If you’d like to volunteer or share your Wabash Y story, contact Tara Balcerzak at tbalcerzak@trcwabash.org
